Announcement and Schedule:

The Irene Steels Wilsing Foundation competition will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 as part of the Heidelberg String Quartet Festival.

Place: Mehrzweckhalle der Alten Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberg,
Keplerstraße 87, 69120 Heidelberg

We begin at 10AM and finish around 5PM same day. The competition is with a lot of audience!

Arrival, drawing the order and rehearsal time in the hall will take place on Tuesday, 21st of January, starting at 6PM

Please send the following material till Oct.1st , only by mail, youtube link and wetransfer: (only german and english) exclusively by e-mail to: irene(at)schwalb.de

The competition is ment for young professional string quartets, the members should live in Europe or Great Britain and the total age should not be over 120 years on Jan.20th. 22 2025, no member may be older than 35 years.

 The application must be attached:
  • Biography (continous text max. 2000 signs including space)
  • video recording of at least two movements from two DIFFERENT quartets from different periods (we definetely prefer LIVE recordings) at least 15 Minutes play time. The recordings should not be done before 2023!
  • Passport copy of each quartet member to see the date of birth
  • Complete title of works and movements of the recordings
  • Two photos and full adress of one member (including mobile number)

 

Eight selected quartets will receive a confirmation and an invitation for the January 22, 2025 in Heidelberg until October 15, 2023.

Prizes to win:

  1. Price: Scholarship for one year, monthly 1,000 Euro, 12,000 Euro in total
  2. Price:  6,000 Euro
  3. Price:  4,000 Euro 

As well as an audience award of Heidelberger Frühling
The 1st prize winning quartet will be invited to take part in the Streichquartettfest 2026.

 

The presentation of each quartet will take around 30 minutes:

a) Playing (the jury chooses movements from the string quartets you announced)

b) an interview with the five members of the jury
    This converstaion is about the situation of the group and its goals as well as  
    questions concerning the pieces.

 

We are sorry for NOT being able to cover accommodation costs- we can assume  part of the traveling expenses.

With the application, the quartet declares that they waive any legal remedies against the foundation and have no legal claim to the granting or payment of any funding promised by the foundation.
